Reiki Practitioner Course (including Reiki 1 and Reiki 2)

Reiki is a safe, gentle and relaxing healing method which can be learned and used easily by anyone. You may choose to learn Reiki for your own personal use - it is a great tool to use for relaxation and healing for yourself, and your friends and family; or you may wish to train in order to become a qualified reiki practitioner.

The reiki community are currently working together to review content and minimum standards in reiki training. A new core curriculum for reiki was published in July 2017 by Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). This core curriculum sets minimum standards for reiki training e.g. minimum number of contact hours you should have with your tutor, the number of case studies and practical observations you should undertake, what the content of the course should include etc.

The Gaia School of Natural Health is thrilled to be accredited and verified by the Reiki Council, UK Reiki Federation and confirmed by the CNHC to offer the new style qualification in reiki training: the Reiki Practitioner Course, which is a qualification to practice reiki as a practitioner and leads to the Reiki Practitioner Course certificate. The accreditation from the Reiki Council (Course registration number P21-0006), Reiki Federation (Verification Number: 2014-1025P) and the CNHC confirm that the course meets the required number of hours, attunements, content and case studies as specified by the Core Curriculum and the reiki National Occupational Standards. Those wishing to work within hospices or NHS environments are increasingly being required to have trained to this recognised level.

Please note that we are currently the only school/Reiki Master Teacher on the Wirral, in West Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales accredited to offer this level of reiki training. Completion of this qualification will ensure that in this changing environment of regulation of complementary therapies, you will meet all the required criteria for membership of professional associations and regulatory bodies. Reiki training is provided by Carolyn Roberts who is a Reiki Master Teacher and practitioner.

How long is the Reiki Practitioner course?

The Reiki Practitioner course will take you at least 9 months to complete, and consists of:

  • 65 contact hours with your Reiki Master,
    and the completion of
  • 75 reiki treatments on others,
  • 100 treatments on yourself and
  • 5 practical observations.

The Gaia School of Natural Health offers flexible learning for their reiki training in that you can book onto, pay for and undertake each stage of learning as you are ready for it. Your course must start with Reiki 1 and end with Reiki 2, but how long it takes you to get to Reiki 2 is up to you. After the initial Reiki 1 training has been completed, the rest of the training can be undertaken in any order and at the pace required to suit you. For individuals who specifically want to become Reiki Practitioners and follow a prescribed course Path then see the options available below from Gaia School of Natural Health.

What modules make up the Reiki Practitioner course?

Your total Reiki Practitioner course consists of the following modules:

Reiki courses Reiki 1 Reiki Practitioner Skills Reiki Development day Reiki Development day GAIA CrystalIntro Reiki 2
Reiki courses Reiki 1 Reiki Practitioner Skills Reiki Development day GAIA CrystalIntro Reiki 2
For further information on each module follow the links above or within the image.

*Note. If you are already a crystal therapist or have a wide knowledge of crystals then you can choose to undertake an extra Reiki development day instead of this day course.

You must attend all 65.5 hours and complete the required case studies, practical observations and assessments in order to complete the Reiki Practitioner Course.

Therapists already holding a qualification in a different therapy are exempted from the 7 hour Reiki Practitioner Skills workshop if they are already qualified in business, professional skills and anatomy, physiology and pathology.

Under the old system, reiki learners would undertake Reiki 1 (for personal use) followed later by Reiki 2 (practitioner level). This level of training is currently still an acceptable way to train in reiki, especially for those only wishing to learn reiki for themselves, and not to practice professionally. It is still acceptable to undertake just these 2 courses (Reiki 1 and 2, along with the one day Reiki Practitioner Skills) either here at the Gaia school, or with a different Reiki Master, and then gain insurance to practice as a reiki professional. However this level of qualification would not be sufficient to join a regulatory body, nor does it meet the requirements of the new core curriculum.

What is a regulatory body and why would I want to join one?

Currently in the UK we have voluntary self-regulation for complementary therapies i.e. it is not compulsory. It is the person doing the Reiki who is regulated, not the Reiki itself, i.e. it is how they work and their interaction with the public.

In February 1996, HRH Prince Charles proposed the Integrated Medicine initiative to encourage orthodox and complementary healthcare to work together within the NHS for the benefit of the British public. For this to happen, complementary therapies were required to be self-regulated and to develop robust systems to ensure high standards of practice and levels of care, to bring them in line with other healthcare professionals who are also expected to hold nationally recognised qualifications. The regulation of complementary therapies is about ensuring the professionalism and minimum standard of training and knowledge of a complementary therapist, and therefore ensuring safety and reassurance for members of the public seeking complementary therapies. General Medical Council (GMC) Guidance confirms that doctors are able to refer clients to practitioners on Accredited Registers.

One of the main regulators of complementary therapies in the UK is the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council - the CNHC. In order to be eligible to join a regulator such as the CNHC, reiki students need to complete reiki training that meets the standards of the new Core curriculum.
