Level 3 Diploma in Indian Head Massage

Level 3 Diploma in Indian Head Massage

led by Debbie Hurst of Harmony Holistics Wirral.

Indian Head massage is a standalone 45 minute treatment that is very popular with clients. The treatment involves massage techniques being applied to the upper back, shoulders, neck, arms, face, head and scalp areas, usually whilst they are in a seated or forward leaning position. It is excellent for relieving stress and tension to these areas which can therefore help with headaches, eye strain, and pain and discomfort. It also leads to general feelings of wellbeing and calm.

Qualified therapists with recognised qualifications in a therapy* and in anatomy, physiology and pathology can attend this training to achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Indian Head Massage, which meets the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for IHM, and is accredited by the FHT.

*A recognised therapy qualification will have met the National Occupational Standards and Core Curriculum for that therapy. This will include a minimum number of contact hours with your tutor and a certain number of case studies, training in therapist and business skills, and training in anatomy, physiology or pathology (or a separate qualification in this).

Course content:

  • Introduction and history of Indian Head Massage
  • Benefits and effects, contra-indications and healing responses
  • Full treatment techniques including acupressure and marma points
  • How to adapt the treatment for delivering IHM on a couch, in a lafuma recliner and clothed in the corporate workplace setting.
  • Anatomy, physiology and pathology of the head, neck, upper back and arms, skin and hair.
  • Health, hygiene and safety working practices
  • Positioning of the therapist and client
  • Record keeping and treatment evaluation
  • Carrier oil information
  • Aftercare advice.

On completion of the course, assessment questions and case studies, you will be awarded a Level 3 Diploma in Indian Head Massage (IHM) from the Gaia School of Natural Health in association with Harmony Holistics Wirral. This diploma is accredited with the FHT, and is accepted by major insurance companies such as Alan Boswell and Balens, for you to gain insurance to offer IHM as a therapy for the public.
