Level 3 Essential Oils Practitioner Diploma

This qualification focuses on essential oils for use in making products for your clients, but does not include massage training. For a qualification in essential oils with massage, please see Diploma in Aromatherapy.

The Essential Oils Practitioner Diploma is accredited with the FHT. On completion of the qualification, as well as being a qualified Essential Oils Practitioner, you will be able to join the FHT Accredited Register. This course is a detailed and high level qualification.

Level 3 Aromatherapy group 2016-17 Level 3 Aromatherapy group 2016-17

The training course takes one academic year (10 months) and you will cover the following modules:

  1. Aromatherapy: history, philosophy, uses.
  2. Essential oils: botany, chemistry, blending and uses.
  3. Practical: blending and product making, including creams and waxes, sprays and aromasticks.

Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence and 60 treatments to perform and record outside of class time. There will also be an assessed clinic where you will conduct an observed practical session.

You will study 70 essential oils within this course. The standard syllabus for a Level 3 qualification is 42 essential oils. Essential oil practitioners are only insured to use oils they have been trained in using. Therefore the inclusion of a further 28 oils in this course will extend the range that you will be able to use with your clients.

As well as studying all the basics of aromatherapy, the course includes various advanced aromatherapy topics ranging from using oils in palliative and cancer care, to helping those with autism, ADHD and learning difficulties, to working with subtle energy techniques. The main focus is product making, engaging in creating blends for bath oils, creams, sprays, shampoos, face masks and smell sticks etc.

Upon completion you will be qualified, and able to gain insurance, to make products for your own clients. Making products to sell to the general public is regulated by European Cosmetic directives which require that each product is safety tested and certificated before being available to sell to the general public. We will give information on how to go about this but you should be aware that this procedure can be costly. Please do get in touch if you want to discuss this before signing up to the course.
